From some perspective all means of transport can be viewed as some kind of ridesharing:
Traveling companions sharing rides because transport works better the more people use it.
Organizing how we get around in a mobile connected demand-driven semi-collective mode
particularly needs a certain minimum amount of active travelers to work at all (critical mass).
